Biography

Jonathan Beutler has been a devoted library patron since his teenage years, when he worked the information desk at his local public library - an experience that ignited a lifelong passion for literature, learning, and public service.

A former diplomat who has studied and worked on four continents, Jonathan has built a career spanning public affairs, international trade, and community service across the Pacific Rim and beyond. A passion for the humanities led him to pursue graduate studies in Hispanic Literature at the University of Barcelona; a commitment to public service drew him to UCLA's Public Policy program. He also completed certificate programs at National Taiwan University and Temple University Japan, and has served as a judge for the Spain-USA Foundation Translation Award.

Jonathan has served as a Los Angeles County Beach Commissioner and on the County Library Commission. He chaired the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce and served as President of the Harbor City-Harbor Gateway Chamber of Commerce. He was recognized as one of "40 Under 40" emerging leaders by the Empowerment Congress, completed fellowships with the Anti-Defamation League, the German Marshall Fund, and the U.S.-Spain Council, and is a graduate of Leadership Los Angeles.

His previous board service and affiliations include the Japan America Society's Board of Governors, the Pacific Council on International Policy, the Aspen Society, and Pediatric Therapy Network, as well as advisory roles at Claremont Graduate University, Chapman University, and Harbor College. Jonathan loves to call the Peninsula region his home, and is honored to serve as President of the Palos Verdes Library District Board of Trustees.
